Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream. A life taken to soon, he did not get to witness all of his dreams come into fruition. We still have a long way to go as a society, however, many of the things he spoke of have come into fruition. I will not go into how things can improve or how we all must be held accountable for our role in society. This post is about DREAMS. We all have them. How many times have you woke up and thought what the heck did I just dream about? Have you ever felt like that dream was too real? What about those goals, your desires, those dreams…How many of us are guilty of placing our dreams on hold? Have you put them on the shelf because someone told you they were too big? To be honest, sometimes we tell ourselves that we are not ready or we cannot do it. We have to get out of our own way. This is not always easy. Believe me, I know. I constantly have to stop and take account of am I helping myself or sabotaging myself. I have a dream….you have a dream. Quite frankly, we are all forced to dream. I mean really, did you ask for that crazy dream last night about nothing?!? 🙂 Dreams can come true but we have play our part. I have to play my part. There are things I have been desiring for years. You ever witness friends or associates accomplishing the very things you at one point wanted? Obviously, we know that life will unfold in the way it is supposed to unfold, but when moments come that challenge your dreams, please do not give up. That is why I like the quote above from Martin Luther King Jr.. You have to keep moving. Even if it is small steps, you are taking a step. We do not go to the Department of Motor Vehicles at 15 years old and say I want a permit or license to fly a plane. You do not just get a license or permit. You prepare. You study the test. Small steps towards the ultimate goal. You may have been working on that nursing degree for 6 years while you raised your children. Keep going. You may have had to stop working on your business to take care of your ill parents…keep going. This is the year to dust those dreams off and move forward. I am currently working on my Masters after being out of school for over 8.5 years. It was something I desired. I wanted certifications in my field. I studied and I earned two certifications. While studying, I skipped a few social events to prepare. Small sacrifices. Take action. Share your story. I believe in you. Do you believe in you? Until the next blog!
