The Worst Advice I’ve Ever Heard About Goals

The Worst Advice I’ve Ever Heard About Goals

Can you believe we are basically halfway through the year?  How are you doing with those 2017 goals?  Did they last beyond February, March?  It’s time to check-in on the various goals you set for 2017.   Here is the worst advice I’ve ever heard about goals:

  1. You don’t have to check in periodically on your goals.

No really, has anyone ever heard of this advice?  It is so important that you check-in periodically on your goals.  Rather it be monthly or bi-weekly, you need to continually assess your progress.  Progress does not happen overnight.  However, if you are not checking in, you may forget or simply find yourself no longer paying the necessary attention to your goal.  Have you checked in on your goals lately?  Today is a perfect day to see what areas you can improve in while giving yourself credit for the many things you have accomplished.  Celebrate the small wins just as much as you embrace the large ones.

  2. Goals should never be written down.

No seriously, they really should be written down.  I prefer to write my goals down on something I am forced to see regularly.  I actually have a whiteboard near the front door in my house.  It contains a summary of my goals.  Yes, I look at my goals each time I walk out of my house.  It serves as a reminder that I am not yet done.  I also write down my accomplishments.  Sometimes we get so focused on the big goal that we do not even realize what we have already accomplished.  I know I’m not the only one who is guilty of being too hard on themselves.  Take the time to write down your goals.  Make a vision board.  Put it somewhere you’re forced to look at everyday.  Today is a perfect day to revise any goals that need tweaking or simply define others a little further.  Have you written your goals down lately?

  3. Goals tend to just accomplish themselves.  You don’t need to break big goals into small chunks.

It can be overwhelming when we set huge goals.  At the beginning of the year we are motivated and inspired to accomplish every goal we set.  However, motivation will vary.  You must be disciplined.  This is why it helps to break goals into small chunks.  These chunks should be measurable and attainable.  Goals do not just accomplish themselves.  You must break the larger goals into small attainable chunks.  Have you checked in our goals lately?  It’s time to finish 2017 strong.  Cheers to the halfway mark!!   Be sure to book your free introductory coaching session.  I’d love to help you reach your goals.  Get out of your own way and live the life you desire!

Your Goals vs Sleep

Your Goals vs Sleep

Your Goals vs Sleep

A few days ago, I stayed up late to finish my 5 Ways to Practice Self-Care Guide.  It’s a one page guide with five ways and affirmations that are designed to help people practice self-care.  We must never apologize for putting ourselves first.  I started this guide a few weeks ago but with finishing upMonday my Masters, I was putting it off.  Last week, I made a commitment to myself to finish it and I knew that goal was more important than sleep.  I am not a fan of a lot of sleepless nights. Our body does need rest. However, sometimes the goal is worth more than sleep.  I stayed up late to finish something special. This is not the only time I have chosen my goal over sleep.  If you are constantly procrastinating on accomplishing your goals, you have to make a choice.  That goal has to be more important than sleep.  That goal has to be more important than going to Happy Hour with your best girlfriends.  That goal has to be more important than catching up with an old friend.  I am not saying that you should miss those moments.  I am saying if you want to truly see movement in your life, in your goals, you have to make a decision to choose it at all costs.  You cannot be in a constant cycle of blaming others for not reaching your goal.  Once the goal is complete, you can resume your normal sleep and happy hour patterns 🙂

What goals are you putting off?  Which goals do you find yourself constantly making excuse after excuse, after excuse.  Sometimes the goal has to be more important than sleep or whatever you tend to spend the most time doing.  This is a great week to truly assess all of the goals you set at the beginning of the year.  What is stopping you from finishing that goal that should have been completed two months ago?  Is it you?  If it is you, get out of your own way.  No more making excuses.  The goal is more important than sleep.

Stop Being Afraid

Stop Being Afraid

Stop Being Afraid…

No matter how many goals we set or how many tools are put in front of us, it will not mean a thing until we change our mental mindset.  Are you still mentally ready to accomplish those goals?  Have you made progress?  Stop being afraid of what could go wrong.  Stop being afraid of what others may think.  This is not the year of fear!

While shopping the other day, I thought about the typical New Year weight loss goal.  Of course I set one too.  Honestly, no matter what tool or program you utilize, you must be disciplined.  You must mentally be ready to do what it takes to lose the weight and even more committed to maintain the weight loss.  If your mental is not right, it will just be a continuos cycle of trying to achieve the very same goal.  I often have to check my mental, my mindset. I have to be mentally ready for the challenges and mentally ready for the victory.  What am I afraid of?  Success?  Do you actually believe you can accomplish that goal?  Are you ready for that moment when you’re gifted exactly what you’ve always been wanting?  There is nothing like getting invited to the hottest party in town with nothing to wear.  You must always have an outfit ready for the big event you’ve been desperately waiting for an invite to attend.  Are you self-sabatoging?  Are you holding yourself accountable for the goals you set?  Here are three ways I check myself mentally to ensure I stay on task:

  1. Accept that everyone won’t like what you’re doing

No one can accomplish what you desire except you.  Stop fighting against yourself. How many times do we assume what we think others will say.  We spend countless minutes, even hours, wondering how this person will respond or react when they find out we are embarking on a new journey or a new goal.  When we finally tell them, they do not even react the way we thought they would!  We wasted precious mental energy wondering what they would say and how they would find a way to discourage us.  If you did share your dream with someone and they dismissed your goal, do not take it personal.  Some people are coming from a place of love and realism.  However, if that goal is possible and you can work towards it, you keep going.  Strategize.  Everyone will not be your cheerleader and that is okay.  You also have to learn that every “negative” comment is not coming from a place of hate.  Learn to decipher through constructive criticism and negativity.  Most people who give constructive criticism will present other alternatives to reaching your very goal.

  2. Stop fighting yourself…

Yes, stop fighting your own success.  I know I’m not the only former self-sabatoger.  When things are not going right, we have a tendency to beat ourselves up for every little mistake we make.  Guess what, mistakes happen.  Guess what, we will not always get it right.  Give yourself permission to make mistakes.  Each day amongst the land of the living is another chance to go 100% towards our goals.  Don’t quit on you.  When the world is beating you, don’t join in on the fight.  Stop fighting the very thing you desire.  I know it may not be packaged the way you expect it to be packaged.  You may have to fight a little harder than the next person.  Sometimes the best gifts come in the least expected packages.  Step out of your comfort zone.  Do things that make you uncomfortable.  Take risks.  Stop fighting your own success.

  3. Stop being afraid…

I know that fear has a way of creeping up in our minds.  It lays dormant and then seems to rear its ugly head when we need it least.  You have to push through.  Push through the fear.  I promise if you continuously push through fear, with each risk you take, you will feel less fear.  Eventually, you’ll be like fear who?!  Do not be afraid to do something that scares you.  Yes, even I am afraid of doing things sometimes.  I can talk myself out of an opportunity with a quickness.  However, I tell myself to push through.  You got this.  Fear is just a feeling.  Success feels even better.

Let’s keep the momentum going.  Don’t give up on your goals.  If you need to reassess, reassess and keep going.  You got this!  Don’t be afraid of what you can accomplish!!

Finding Peace in 2017…

Finding Peace in 2017…

Finding Peace

New Year, New You right?  Evident by all of the Facebook and social media posts, 2017 is right around the corner.  Some of my friends have had an amazing 2016 and others cannot wait for it to be over.  As I read the various statuses, my heart aches for those who seem to just can’t find their way.  My heart aches for those who seem to be tested at every turn in their life.  Sometimes there is simply no answer as to why we are selected to face such difficulty, such a test in our life.  I mean what did we do so bad to get that particular issue?  Was he out of other people to bother?  Karma just can’t be thaaaat long.  I want you to know the importance of finding PEACE.  A few years ago, I decided that no matter what I faced I was going to speak and pray myself out of it.  I am the most overly positive person I know.  I even wonder about me sometimes lol.  Honestly, if you want 2017 to be your year of change, start changing your thinking now, in 2016.  I don’t know what you’ve been through but I know that it was not easy.  However, in some twisted dark fantasy way, you have to turn a negative into a positive, even if only fragment can become positive tools of growth.  I have this saying, “you are exactly where you are suppose to be right now, however, that does not mean you’ll be there forever.”  2016 was a trying year for me but for some reason I cannot even find it in myself to complain.  I am so thankful for everything I discovered.  I no longer feel guilty for choosing me first.  I’m so thankful for the friendships that grew but also thankful for those that may have been shortened.  Would I have preferred some things not happen?  Of course.  However, sometimes we just are not in control of everything that happens to us.  We have to take control of the things we can but most importantly take control of our reactions.  Life is a roller coaster.  We have to make sure our dips are not too deep.  No one wants to just stay in one part of the of the roller coaster for days.  You want the ride to be over and crazily some of you will go get on another roller coaster after just finishing one, literally.  (Can you tell I’m not a big fan of rollercoasters?)  My point is, life happens.  Sometimes you simply have to say life happens and muster up everything in you to smile.  Pull yourself out of that rut.  Here’s my way of approaching each year to avoid the New Year, Same Me story:

Change Your Thoughts

Oh this one is not easy but I promise you it is worth it.  Earlier this year, I went to South Carolina nearly How to love youevery month or at least every other month.  My dad was sick and he is still recovering.  I watched my father have two toes amputated the year before and his wounds just were not healing.  I literally drove him to his doctor’s appointments and to an appointment daily where he spent about 4 hours in an oxygen chamber.  It was so hard watching my dad and the doctors find one thing after another.  However, I did not stay in my woe is me for too long.  I mean of course I cried.  My own health was suffering and I knew I had to find a way to remove as many stressful situations and people out of my life to focus on me while being there for my family.  Honestly, sometimes you have to just be there for you.  You have to create the most positive environment you can.  You have to think differently.  If all you did was complain in 2016, that complaining bug won’t magically disappear in 2017.  You have to turn those complaints into thankfulness.  How the heck do you thank the world for a messed-up situation?  It won’t happen overnight but you have to believe that this world is giving you some story that’s going to empower you while empowering others around you and even strangers.  The strength of some of my friends is unbreakable.  I witness how you’ve managed to hold it all together while the world is falling apart.  Some of you are secretly letting your world fall apart while appearing to hold it all together to the public.  I’m not saying broadcast to everyone how you’re feeling but please reach out and be honest with your closest friends.  Do not suffer in silence.  Do not get pulled into a place of constant negativity.  Seek help professionally if need be.  Just make sure you get the help you need to find your idea of positive thoughts.   There is no one-size fits all positive thinking however a simple change in thoughts can go a long way.  Speak positive, be positive, find positive.  Shift your mindset.  Change your thinking now in preparation for a better 2017.

Find Peace…Create it if you have too

If you’ve watched any of my motivational videos, I tend to speak about peace a lot.  Frankly, closure is not always gifted to us.  Sometimes we will not find closure.  Sometimes we won’t understand why the heck that mess happened to us.  Why we weren’t selected for that job.  Why we seem to make three steps forward only to be pushed back one.  Find peace.  Create it if you have too!  I know that everything I’ve been through is to be a testament to my circle and strangers alike.  I was gifted this diabetes at the age of 13.  I have battled with it like a “insert some playstation game that everyone knows” lol.  It has been hard.  I’ve done damage to my body because of the up and down blood sugar readings.  Find peace.  Create Peace.  You may not understand why but sometimes we have to accept the things we cannot change and do our best to create an environment where we are at peace with whatever happens but we are fighting our hardest for the best outcome.  We have to find peace when we don’t understand why that friendship or relationship ended.  We have to create peace when we just don’t understand why that happened to our loved one.  It is not easy.  When I tell you I have approached almost four to five years with this thinking, it is a process.  Heck, I’m still working on me but I know that being transparent is part of my purpose.  I know my purpose is helping others while I help myself.  I have to share my growth, my journey to peace.  You can find it. However, don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t happen overnight.  Keep telling yourself that 2016 may not have been the best year but I witnessed it.  I made it.  I fought whatever it was and I’m going to keep fighting this thing and it won’t break me.  It might bend me but I’m not broken.  If you are broken, find peace and create a way to put yourself together again.  You have to realize that some were not even gifted the opportunity to see 2016. You were.  Create a way, find a way to journey towards the new you, the new-and-improved take life as it comes you.  Find peace, create peace.

There won’t always be an answer…

This may be the hardest.  I get so many stories of people going through things or been through things.  It always amazes me when people tell me their background and I’d never in a million years think they grew up in such an environment or they went through a particular situation.  Most of the time I’m like man they are the sweetest person ever and they went through all that?!?  They still manage to smile through it all.  Sometimes there will not be an answer.  Sometimes, life will just happen.  Sometimes you have to stop searching for answers and just find peace.  Some of you are stressing yourself out, spinning in circles as to why this happened.  There isn’t always an answer but sometimes the most difficult situation is given because you have the strength to handle it.  That’s twisted right? However, not everyone could go through what you’ve been through and still look as good as you.  You’re not defeated.  You’re not through.  You keep fighting.  You make those changes in 2017.  You grab life by the horns and you go get everything you desire in this life.

The new year will not mean a thing if you do not change our thinking.  Find an outlet.  Practice self-care.  Do something that scares you.  Do something you wouldn’t ordinarily do.  Forgive someone who you’d never in a million years thought you’d forgive.  Forgive them for your own peace and closure.  Find peace in 2017 and continually find it the years to come.  We will always be continually improving ourselves.  Practice loving you just as hard as you love others.  I wish you peace in 2017.  I wish you love in 2017.  I wish you changed thoughts in 2017.  I wish you everything you desire in the new year and all the years to come.

xoxo

Overnight Success Stories Aren’t Always Overnight

Overnight Success Stories Aren’t Always Overnight

The Importance of Taking Time…

It seems like every time I take a flight, I get a blog idea.  I think it is safe to say that flights are my “blog motivation,” especially the turbulent “I should have just drove” ones.  I bought a last minute flight to go home for Thanksgiving last year.  Our flight was delayed but we had already boarded.  The flight attendant and pilot were not exactly communicating the reasons why we had not taken off yet.  We eventually found out that there were too many infants (lap babies) on the flight.  Really.  I honestly did not even know that FAA limited the number of lap children or that for some planes, only one side has oxygen masks for lap children.  I’m telling you this story to set up why it made me think of the importance of “taking time.”

When we were cleared for takeoff, the pilot promised to make up for the lost time and to get us there still on time.  In my mind and to the lady sitting next to me, we both were like don’t rush this plane on our accounts.  Take your time.  Needless to say, I can tell that pilot “rushed” our flight home.  That little plane was going faster than it probably should have.  We had one of those dips mid-air and it was very turbulent during certain patches.  I truly believe that sometimes we are in a rush to get where we want to go.  We see “overnight successes” that were not exactly overnight.  We rush.  We have natural life setbacks.  We don’t take the time to take the time.  Everything is a process.  Do not beat yourself up because it is not happening as fast you would like.  Just don’t stop.  Don’t stop working.  Don’t stop grinding as they say.  Take time to take the time to accomplish your goals.  With only a few weeks left in the year, whatever that goal you set for this year, do not give up.  Do not simply ignore it until the next year.  We can finish the year strong.  It takes time to cultivate success, whatever you define as success.  Take the time to take the time.

How can you take the time to take the time this week?  Comment below.

3 Things to Take Away from Surviving Compton

3 Things to Take Away from Surviving Compton

3 Things to Take Away from the Life of Michel’le…

Surviving Compton premiered on Lifetime tonight.  I must say I enjoyed the movie.  I watched Michel’le on R&B Divas and grew a liking to her.   Michel’le was signed to Easy-E’s Ruthless Records.  Some feel she was conveniently left out of the Straight out of Compton movie.  While a few scenes caused me to tear up, it is so important that her version, her story, her view, is told.  There are so many women who are or have been in abusive relationships.  There are so many who choose to remain silent.  Rather you agree with the authenticity of her story or not, it is a story that is often untold.  I will not blame Michel’le for staying.  I will not blame her for leaving one abusive relationship and moving on to another.  Honestly, my opinion is that Michel’le did not leave because she did not love herself enough to leave.  I think women must learn that you do not have to stop loving him to leave.  Being single can give you some time to truly get to know you, love you.  I will not simplify this into this blog post but there were some key takeaways in her sharing her story.  Sometimes your story can empower someone while being therapeutic for you.  Here are three takeaways from the Lifetime movie:

  1. Love Yourself More…

I started iamWYS because I have had many people confide their stories, their secrets, in me.  I believe that my story plays a major role in the woman I am today.  I didn’t always love me the way I should love me.  I wanted to inspire others while I inspired myself.  Our story plays an integral part in the decisions we make.  Our upbringing can have a negative impact on our lives.  It impacts us daily rather we realize it or not.  I personally know women who have stayed in abusive relationships, cheating relationships, and just miserable all around relationships.  People are quick to assume it easy for these women to just leave.  Throw children into the mix and it can be even harder.  You cannot change a man.  He has to change for himself.  If you ever come to me for advice, I tell you exactly what I tell myself when I make the decision to leave a relationship for whatever reason.  “It is okay to love a person, but you have to love yourself more.”  I can’t tell you that it is easy to stop loving someone.  However, you have to love YOU more.  You have to know that through all your mess, there is a message.  You are of value.  You are worthy of healthy love.  Love yourself more…

  2. “Don’t let somebody give you hell covered in dollar bills.”

While I highly doubt she said this line to Suge as portrayed in the movie, this was one of the most powerful lines of the movie.   We see that Michel’le grandmother instilled in her that abuse was okay.  It was normal.  This blog post is not just about abuse.  Do not let somebody give you hell covered in dollar bills.  Do not let that man or woman constantly disrespect you.  If he/she is constantly cheating on you or verbally abusing you, do not think that you cannot do any better.  Do not let somebody give you hell covered in dollar bills.  Of course, no one is perfect but if you feel like you’re waking up in hell everyday, you have to take a look at your situation. You are worth so much more.  I don’t care how unclean your past is… Money is not a reason to stay unhappy.

  3. Forgive yourself…

What do you do after you leave?  Forgive yourself for staying so long.  Take ownership of your role in the situation.  Yes, people will judge you.  They may call you all kind of names because you were not strong enough to leave sooner.  Regardless, forgive yourself.  Forgive yourself because I know it hurts.  It especially hurts when you see that person go on and seemingly have an amazing, happy, life.  The man who once abused you or just did not treat you right is now happily married with a new family.  He is seemingly a changed man.  Forgive yourself.  He has to deal with his own demons.  One thing I’ve learned is to forgive myself and forgive those who have wronged me.  There is no need in me losing sleep while they get to sleep like a newborn baby.  You made the decision but one thing about mistakes, we all make them.  Figure out why you are not loving you the way you should be loved.  This is not an overnight process.  I am an advocate of therapy.  Learn to love you.  Continue to grow…learn from your mistakes and be sure not to make the same ones over and over…

What did you think of the movie?  I’d love to hear your comments…

Until next time…

3 Ways I Choose Happiness

3 Ways I Choose Happiness

3 Ways You Can Choose Happiness

If you follow my blog, you know that my 30th birthday was not too long ago.  I had such an amazing birthday.  It seems like right after my birthday, things that could go wrong went wrong.  Or as I call it, life happened.  Life will happen.  You know those moments when you’re driving and you hit an unexpected pot hole?  You tried to dodge it but it was just too late.  Maybe you did not even see it coming?  After my birthday, my car decided to pull a Kanye West/Taylor Swift moment on me.  My car basically said “I’m going to let you finish celebrating your birthday, but you will give me attention.”  I have had my car for nearly six years.  I purchased her brand new after a meet and greet with a few trees back in 2010 (fancy phrase for “car accident”).  About a day after my birthday, my car battery decided to die.  She gave up on us.  After six years, she decided she was done.  A few days before that, my headlights decided to end their lifecycle as well.  I went to a mechanical shop and they said it must be electrical since it would not come on after switching the lights.   All and all, after getting my headlights fixed at the dealership, it cost me $258.  The new car battery cost me an additional $159.  I could have used these situations to be “woe is me,” but I chose happiness instead. I chose to be grateful that my car did not start up while in my driveway instead of out on the road late at night.  The cop who pulled me over for my headlight gave me a warning instead of a ticket.  My amazing circle of friends had given me just enough money for my birthday to cover the unexpected costs.  Do I wish I could have done something else with that money?  Of course!  However, I choose to extract positive in every situation even when it really isn’t the best scenario.  Here is how I choose happiness and how you can too:

1. Don’t Kick Yourself Too…

When the world is kicking you, do not join the world in kicking yourself too.  Speak positivity into your situation.  I know this is not easy.  Frankly, it may seem impossible.  However, there is power in our words.  There is power in positive thinking.  You can’t beat yourself up too just because the world is giving you a good old-fashion kicking.  Life will hit us in ways we could never imagine.  We must chose to be your own confidant, our own encouragement.  We must not kick ourselves too.

2. Remove negativity…

I recall a scripture that says we must guard our heart.  Just as we must guard our heart, we must guard our mental space.  We must extractContinue Reading!

How to Start Traveling Today!

3 Ways to Travel Today!

When is the last time you took a vacation???

When is the last time you woke up somewhere other than your home?  I made it a mission to travel to a new town or state every month this year.  Vacations do not always have to be somewhere international.   I do love a good international trip.   However, I have been enjoying my short monthly weekend getaways.  I am very thankful to have found a career that allows me to work from home three consecutive days a week.  Because of this, I am able to travel and still get my work done!  You do not have to wait to travel.  Explore the world, no matter how far or short.  You do not need to compare your short trips to someone’s grand international trip.  “Comparison is the thief of joy.”   Best Joy QuotesYour small trips can be just as rewarding as the big getaways.

Here are 3 ways to start traveling today:

1. Start small

Start by visiting old friends, relatives, or acquaintances. You can pick a location that is a short driving distance from your home.  Remember those college friends who said you always have a place to stay?  Take them up on their offer!  You would be surprised how many people are more than willing to host you during a weekend stay.  I recently traveled to Los Angeles, California for a week. I met up with my best friend who lives on the West Coast. Her cousin allowed us to stay at her home.  She was the most amazing host!!  I had such a wonderful time in LA.  Be sure to give your host a nice thank you gift at the end. I sure hope she enjoyed the candle we left for her!

2. Plan ahead

With so many flight deals, you can snatch up a great deal on a flight. Remember that trip to LA I mentioned?  I found a round trip flight on Alaska Airlines for $197.  I live all the way on the East Coast! That was a steal!  I also find flights home on JetBlue for under $100 round-trip. You may have to stalk the varying airlines but there are deals out there!  Sign up for travel deal sites such as The Flight Deal.   If you are not stuck to a specific date, you can really catch a great deal while finding a reasonable or even free place to stay.

3. Think outside the box

Do not feel that you are obligated to go to every place that others have.  You do not have to compare your travels to your neighbors.  If you cannot afford an international trip just yet, continue to save.  It will happen in due time.   You may even save $100s of dollars by waiting for a deal.  In the mean time, visit those places like New Orleans, Delaware, Milwaukee, and much more.  I had an amazing time  in Kansas City, Missouri a few weeks ago.  Be open to an area and remember to call that friend who said you can always stay with them!

Happy Traveling!!!!

I’m Terrified of Flying…. #motivation

I’m Terrified of Flying…. #motivation

Do It in Fear…

I have a confession.  I am secretly terrified of flying.  Not in a literal sense, but I am always a little uneasy during takeoff.  I close my eyes and hope to magically sleep through the entire flight.  Lately, it seems like I can rarely sleep on the plane!  Maybe I should consider Benadryl.  lol.  I have traveled a lot this year.  This past month, I had two round-trip flights.  I actually have another two round-trips scheduled next month!  I have been bit by the travel bug and have no intent to stop flying.  One of these past flights, I experienced quite a bit of turbulence.  It was not my normal turbulence.  It was the “is this plane going to drop out of the sky turbulence?”  Honestly, I rarely experience turbulence.  The truth is I know that planes are built to sustain turbulence and certain conditions.  Even if I have hesitations, I will continue to fly because I prefer a 2-hour flight over a 10-hour car drive.  It made me think:

Sometimes you have to do the very thing that scares you to get to the place you want to go…

We are built to sustain the turbulence of life.  You are built for this and you are going to make it.  I do not know what you are going through, but I do know that life will throw curveballs at us.  There will be turbulence.  Sometimes it will be expected and sometimes it will be unannounced.  This recent turbulence, the pilot did not announce.  I love a good warning when life is about to throw a curveball.  However, it may not always work that way.  We must remember that even with the possibility of turbulence, we must do the very thing that scares us to get to the place we want to go.  Turbulence is only temporary.  The end-result, the destination is the reward.  Keep flying.  You’re going to soar.

When Life Gives You Lemons…

When Life Gives You Lemons…

*Pulls out imaginary Beyhive card*

Warning, this is a Beyonce related post.  Do not worry, I will not be reviewing her latest album.  I will not be covering the messages within each song.  I simply wanted to make a post on how she and countless other women continue to inspire women and young girls from all walks of life.  This weekend, Beyonce released a new visual album.  While we may be side-eying Jay-Z, let us stop and truly embrace the entire body of art Beyonce so graciously delivered.

I often wonder if Beyonce gets an extra hour or two in her day.  Where can I find 26 hours in a day?!?

How did she manage to release an album, write the songs, and even record full out videos while releasing a new Ivy Park fitness line?!?  This woman is unstoppable!  We, you and I, can do the very same.  We may not want to be a singer or do the exact things Beyonce does, but I can tell her aim is to inspire women to stand up for themselves, expel the stereotypes, embrace your uniqueness, and make lemonade when life throws you lemons.  I am inspired.

Inspiration creates inspiration…

One thing I admire about Beyonce is her dedication to her craft.  Whatever your craft is, learn it, become an expert.  Everything will not happen overnight.  You are your own competition.  You are your motivation.  I am my motivation.  Others, known and unknown, continue to inspire me.  Obviously, I do not blog for a living (I would need to put up more posts! lol).  However, I make it an effort to perfect my crafts.  I am not perfect and never will claim to be.  However, I was able to move up quickly in the workforce due to studying my craft, even when I was not at work.  We may not have the Beyonce “funds,” but we do have the same 24 hours that Beyonce has.  I constantly remind myself that I have the same amount of hours as Oprah, Beyonce, etc.  I admire how she approached her latest adventure with TopShop.  She did not simply endorse a fitness line.  She created it and owns it 50/50.  I will make it a point this week to continue to take care of my mind, body, and soul.  I will continue to remove all self-imposed limitations.  What can you do more of this week to carry out those goals you set?  What can you do less of?  What can you start doing? How can we continue the line of inspiration?  How can we inspire the often forgotten?  Some may have never witnessed success directly. I would list my favorite songs but honestly I appreciated each song, from Freedom to Hold Up to Sorry.  Even if I could not completely relate, I appreciate the body of art.  Beyonce will not allow you to just sample singles.  She is truly one of the artists who will require you to listen to her entire album before just purchasing a single.  This is not common in today’s music world.  Beyonce is Beyonce.  However, I am Monica and you are you.  Let us admire but use it as a catalyst to accomplish our own goals through the good, bad, and indifferent.  Beyonce continues to show us vulnerability, even if everything is not directly from her life.  If you experienced a bad break-up, reclaim your power.  There is often growth in vulnerability.

Whatever that situation you are going through, use it as motivation, use it as a tool of growth.  Make lemonade…

What did you think of Beyonce’s latest visual album?  Did it inspire you in some way?  Let us make lemonade this week and forever…maybe even add some strawberries 🙂  When you are done, just continue to smile.  You did it 🙂  We did it… Until the next blog….
